The Arc is a newly developed residential and commercial tower situated East of central London at 225 City Road; for this development, we were tasked with designing and delivering a high-quality cycle storage and End of Trip Facilities to support the growing trend of active commuting. With sustainability and urban mobility at the forefront, this project required a secure, space-efficient, and aesthetically refined solution aligned with BREEAM environmental standards.

Challenge

The project presented several key challenges:

• Maximising bike storage within a constrained footprint while ensuring ease of use for all cyclists.
• Integrating security features that offer protection without compromising accessibility.
• Ensuring all materials and finishes met strict environmental and durability standards.
• Delivering the installation within a tight timeframe while coordinating with ongoing construction work on-site.

Solution

To meet the specific requirements of the project, we designed and installed a bespoke cycle storage facility featuring:

• Gas Assisted Two Tier Bike Racks: Providing 74 cycle spaces with a gas assisted upper tier to enhance usability, hot-dipped galvanised to BS EN ISO 1461:2022 for durability.
• Single-Tier Racks: Offering 186 cycle spaces with staggered heights for efficient use of space, featuring secure locking hoops for added security.
• Folding Bike Lockers: 18 dedicated lockers for compact bicycle storage, designed for Brompton-style bikes, with secure key or padlock cam locks.
• Sheffield Stands: 20 galvanised steel Sheffield stands positioned externally for short-term storage solutions.
• Maintenance Station: Equipped with universal bike mounts and essential repair tools, ensuring a fully equipped facility for commuters.
• Security Mesh Fencing & Controlled Access: High-quality perforated mesh fencing provides visibility, strength, and a secure access control system to restrict unauthorised entry.

End of Trip Facilities

To enhance the user experience, we incorporated Camden Clothing Lockers and Westminster Clothing Lockers. These premium lockers offer secure storage with ventilated, moisture-resistant designs and multiple locking options to accommodate cyclists and commuters needing changing and storage space.

Results

The Installation at 225 City Road was completed on schedule and met all compliance standards. Our tailored approach resulted in a high-capacity, user-friendly, and secure cycle facility that enhances the sustainability and convenience of the development.
