A Premium Cycle Storage and End-of-Trip Facility in the Heart of the City

Bow Bells House is a premium commercial workplace development in the City of London, linking the Bank of England and St Paul’s Cathedral. The 216,000 sq ft office building on Bread Street underwent a creative renewal, delivered for Fabrix, with IKON Group Ltd as the main contractor and White Red Architects leading the architectural vision.

The Bike Storage Company was appointed as a trusted partner to deliver an end-of-trip (EOT) cycle facility in the basement area of the building. To be treated as a key feature of the development (not as an afterthought), we delivered a highly coordinated, design-led solution within a constrained footprint.

The result? A seamless, high-specification environment that supports modern workplace expectations around cycling, wellbeing and active travel. We were involved in early-stage layout planning through to manufacturing and installation.

A Fully Integrated Cycle and End-of-Trip Facility

The brief called for a comprehensive solution that balanced capacity, durability, and architectural quality. Our mission was to design a space that employees actually want to use, helping them feel empowered to cycle to work.

Within the basement level, we delivered:

  • 150 cycle spaces (three bays of two-tier bike racks – 52 + 52 + 46)
  • 154 two-tier clothing locker compartments across male and female changing areas.
  • A dedicated steaming station and water station
  • An inclusive cycle parking space and cycle maintenance area
  • A coordinated material finish across all locker and benching elements to achieve a premium look and feel

All of this needed to be achieved while working around existing structural and MEP constraints – including sprinkler pipework, mechanical ducting, and access requirements to below-ground services.

Design-Led Workplace Lockers for Commercial Environments

A key focus of the project was delivering commercial clothing lockers that aligned with the premium interior specification of the wider development. Warm wooden accents. Minimalist design. Monotone palette. A fresh, modern feel.

Westminster Lockers

40 units in a two-tier configuration, delivering 80 compartments, were installed within the changing areas. These lockers feature:

  • High-pressure laminate (HPL) doors with matching lipped edges
  • Moisture-resistant base construction for long-term durability
  • Advanced digital keypad locking system
  • Heavy-duty Blum hinges for high-frequency use
  • Generous storage space
  • Integrated European Oak hardwood benching, seamlessly built into the locker runs

Our Westminster Lockers are customisable with flexible locking options, a choice of finishes and sizes, and ventilation and heating options. Not to mention, all our lockers are proudly Made in Britain.

Camden Lockers

A further 37 units (74 compartments) were delivered using the same HPL and MFC carcass specification, ensuring a consistent, coordinated finish across both male and female facilities.

The result is a locker system that balances robustness with refined detailing – suitable for high-end commercial workplaces where aesthetics and performance carry equal weight. Our Camden Lockers can also be customised to seamlessly integrate with your development.

Supporting Facilities: Steaming & Hydration

To complete the end-of-trip offering, The Bike Storage Company incorporated additional functional elements that enhance day-to-day usability:

  • Steaming Station
    • 600 x 600mm unit
    • HPL door with key cam lock
    • Integrated J400 Jiffy Steamer
    • Mains power connection
  • Water Station
    • 500 x 600mm unit
    • HPL door with ventilation louvres as required
    • Designed to integrate with a water point

These features support a workplace environment where users can transition seamlessly from commute to desk – reinforcing the importance of well-considered EOT facilities in modern developments.

High-Density Two-Tier Cycle Storage, Carefully Planned

The main event? High-density workplace bike storage to ensure employees can securely park their bike in the basement of Bow Bells House – nicely hidden away from busy streets. The cycle storage strategy focused on maximising capacity without compromising usability.

Three bays of two-tier racks provide 150 cycle spaces, with:

  • Separate access sides to improve user flow
  • An inclusive cycle parking space for accessibility compliance
  • A self-serve cycle maintenance area to support long-term usability and cyclist safety. This includes a bike pump, screwdrivers, a pedal spanner, and more tools.

The layout ensures that even at peak usage, the facility remains intuitive and efficient for occupiers, now and in the future.

Early and Co-ordinated Layout Planning

A defining success of the Bow Bells House project was our involvement at the early layout planning stage, working directly from the architect’s construction drawings. Early alignment was key to ensure all bases were covered, minimising any potential risks at a later stage.

Key considerations included:

  • Segregation of male and female user flows
  • Maximising locker capacity within limited floor area
  • Integration of a drying room with dedicated benching
  • Allowance for sprinkler systems, ductwork, and structural constraints
  • Incorporation of a removable manhole access point within the locker layout

This level of coordination ensured that every element of the EOT facility worked cohesively – both spatially and operationally.

Delivery Within a Constrained Basement Environment

All products were manufactured in Britain to The Bike Storage’s standard specification and installed by our professional fitting teams.

Working within a central London basement environment required:

  • Careful coordination with IKON Build
  • Planning around restricted access and working conditions
  • Sequencing installation alongside other trades

The result is a clean, precise installation that aligns with the architectural intent and withstands the demands of a high-traffic commercial building.

A Premium Workplace Amenity

Bow Bells House now benefits from a fully integrated end-of-trip facility that supports cycling, wellbeing, and sustainable commuting.

The completed space:

  • Enhances the occupier experience through high-quality design and usability
  • Aligns with BREEAM Transport credits and active travel strategies
  • Reinforces the building’s position as a premium commercial workplace

The Role of End-of-Trip Facilities in Modern Workplaces

As modern workplace expectations continue to evolve, end-of-trip facilities are no longer optional – they are a core component of workplace design. The boom in cycling isn’t stopping anytime soon.

At Bow Bells House, the integration of cycle storage, commercial clothing lockers, and supporting amenities demonstrates how a well-executed EOT strategy can elevate both functionality and perception.

For architects, developers, and contractors, the project highlights the value of engaging a specialist partner early – ensuring that design, coordination, and delivery are aligned from day one.
