Project
Client: Myles Alexander (Valley Provincial)
Location: Perfume Factory, London
Products Installed: Four bespoke 14-space two-tier cycle shelters
Valley Provincial, tasked with transforming the Perfume Factory into a mixed-use development, required robust, secure facilities to support the growing number of cycling commuters. We were commissioned to design, manufacture, and install high-capacity shelters that balance function, sustainability, and architectural quality—aligned with BREEAM principles.
The Challenge
- Maximising capacity in a constrained footprint while maintaining accessibility and usability.
- Security that deters theft without compromising ease of entry for commuters.
- Environmental performance with materials/finishes that meet durability and BREEAM-aligned sustainability standards.
Our Solution
We developed a tailored solution comprising four bespoke 14-space two-tier shelters in both gated and open-front configurations,
prioritising security, sustainability, and user convenience.
1) Bespoke 14-Space Two-Tier Cycle Shelter (Gated)
- Dimensions: 3,700 mm W × 2,100 mm D × 2,750 mm H
- Hot-dip galvanised frame to BS EN ISO 1461:2022 for long-term corrosion resistance.
- Clad in 656 twin-wire security mesh (RAL 7032) with double mesh swing gates and access control for authorised entry.
- Sustainable detailing: Uprights clad with clear-sealed planed timber battens for a natural, design-led finish.
- BREEAM-friendly specification across materials and processes.
2) Bespoke 14-Space Two-Tier Cycle Shelters (Open-Front)
- Open-front design for quick walk-up access while retaining enclosed sides for security and weather protection.
3) Additional Sustainable Features
- Sedum Green Roof: One shelter upgraded with a sedum roof, raised parapet, and three-piece drainage layer to enhance biodiversity and sustainability credentials.
- Biodiversity habitat panels on upper external sides, encased with heavy-duty wire mesh to create micro-habitats for local wildlife.
4) Rack Upgrade
- Gas-Assisted Two-Tier Racks: Gas struts on upper tiers improve accessibility and user comfort, maximising density without sacrificing ease of use.
Installation & Delivery
- Ground preparation: Assumed level foundations and use of site pallet trucks for material distribution.
- Single-hit delivery & installation: Logistics consolidated to reduce site impact and accelerate programme.
- Waste management: All waste disposed of on-site via the client’s systems.
Results
- Secure storage for 56 bicycles (four shelters × 14 spaces) with high throughput and intuitive access.
- Sustainable design via timber accents, green roof upgrade, and biodiversity panels.
- Enhanced user experience thanks to gas-assisted upper tiers and open-front options for quick access.
